Summary:
Heavy to excessive rainfall will occur in Southern California today. Flash flooding and mud/debris flows are possible, especially in wildfire burn scars. Gusty winds are also expected, as well as mountain snow above 7000 feet. This weekend, heavy snow is possible for the High Plains, and heavy rain may fall over southern Arizona, the Gulf Coast, and the lower Mississippi Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-40, I-10, I-15, I-25, I-70, I-80, I-35, I-90


California
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST this morning

  • Minor coastal flooding expected. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.
     

Flood Watch remains in effect until 9 PM PST Friday evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Snow expected locally as low as 6500 feet. Total snow accumulations of up to 10 inches above 8000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact higher mountain highways.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations six to twelve inches in the Southern Sierra Nevada above 9,000 feet. Additional snowfall three to six inches in the Southern Sierra Nevada below 9,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility less than a quarter of a mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PST this morning

  • Southeast to south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Isolated gusts to 60 mph are possible on favored mountain peaks.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles. Travel may be affected on area roadways by gusty cross winds, including Highways 33 and Interstate 5. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. 

North Carolina
Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 AM EST Friday morning

  • Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall will continue.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. 

New Mexico
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility occasionally down to one-quarter mile or less.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility as low as one quarter mile in freezing fog. 
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. This includes along I-40 from Gallup to the Continental Divide and U.S. Highway 60 west of the Very Large Array. Bridges and overpasses may become slick with a light glaze of ice.

Summary:
A series of storms will bring periods of heavy to excessive rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds to central and southern California. Heavy rainfall may produce flash flooding and mud/debris flows, especially in wildfire burn scars. Widespread river flooding will continue over the Northeast, and in portions of the Mid-Atlantic this week. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-80, I-280, I-680, I-195, I-95


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Additional snow accumulations six to twelve inches above 9,000 feet. Additional snowfall three to six inches below 9,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7:30 AM PST this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. 
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM PST this morning

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM PST Thursday evening

  • A high risk of flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
  • Impacts: There is a high risk of extensive roadway flooding, especially in low-lying areas. There will likely be rock and mudslide activity on and below canyon and mountain roadways. Significant travel delays and road closures are likely.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM PST Thursday morning

Summary:
Lake-effect snow is expected downwind of the Great Lakes with several inches of accumulations expected in higher elevations of the Northern and Central Appalachians. An active weather pattern across the West Coast will bring rainfall for areas across the Pacific Northwest and California through much of this week. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-82, I-5, I-84, I-15, I-80, I-25, I-70, I-76, I-77, I-71, I-79, I-64, I-99, I-86, I-81


Pennsylvania 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM EST this morning 

  • Snow expected. Total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds will result in blowing and drifting of the snow.

New York 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM EST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Winter Weather Advisory  remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce some blowing snow in open areas.
  • Impacts: Plan on snow covered and slippery road conditions with reduced visibility. The morning commute will be impacted by snow and slippery roads.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM EST this morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches will bring storm totals into the 7 to 11 inch range along the Chautauqua Ridge, with much lower amounts near Lake Erie and farther inland. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce some blowing and drifting snow in open areas. 
  • Impacts: Plan on snow covered and slippery road conditions with reduced visibility. The morning commute will be impacted by snow and slippery roads.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. There will be a high risk for blow offs or blowovers for light weight and high profile vehicles such as empty box semi trucks and those towing camper trailers.

Maine
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM EST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by rain and excessive rainfall runoff. The rain has ended but significant runoff will continue.
  • Impacts: Turn around and don`t drown. Many roads are closed and washed out.

California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow expected with total snow accumulations of one to two feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

  • Southerly winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 35 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as holiday decorations. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

Summary:
A powerful storm was racing northward across New England today; Heavy rain, strong winds and coastal impacts continue. Colder and windy conditions will spread across the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Appalachians and to the East Coast. Lake effect snow and upslope flow into the Appalachians will bring snow accumulations and difficult travel conditions. The west coast will see more rain and some snow. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-80, I-94, I-69, I-65, I-74, I-196, I-96, I-75, I-71, I-77, I-271, I-26, I-95, I-76, I-81, I-78, I-88, I-87, I-91, I-84, I-89, I-91, I-93


Colorado
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility below 1/2 mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. Major routes impacted include portions of Hwy 160 and Hwy 41 in extreme southwest Colorado as well as Hwy 162, Hwy 163 and portions of Hwy 191 in southeast Utah.

Oregon
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • Southeast winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

  • Visibility less than one- half mile in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility and potential frost on bridges.

Maine
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by heavy rain and rapid snowmelt.
  • Impacts: Frozen soils will cause rapid runoff produced by rainfall and snowmelt. The area small streams are expected to rise rapidly this morning and flood area roads. Significant rises are possible which could threaten properties in flood prone areas. Travel disruptions will increase throughout the day. The excessive runoff could cause road washouts.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Scattered to numerous power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening

  • Storm surge values of 2 to 3 feet and large nearshore waves of 15 to 20 feet will coincide with the Monday afternoon high tide to bring minor to moderate coastal flooding impacts.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low-lying vulnerable locations near the waterfront can be expected with up to a foot inundation in some low lying areas. Flooding will occur along parking lots, parks and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Summary:
A storm system will move across the Plains today with periods of rain and some snow; A few thunderstorms will be possible across the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley later today into tonight. A develop storm in the Gulf of Mexico will track up the east coast this weekend. Heavy rain, strong winds and coastal impacts are expected. A Pacific system approaches the west coast next week. Florida

  • Minor coastal flooding.

  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to sudden decreases in visibility and potential ice on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses.

Summary:
A winter storm will continue to bring moderate to heavy snow to portions of the Central and Southern Rockies through Friday morning. Locally heavy rainfall may result in isolated flash flooding concerns in the southern Plains. Across the southeast, a stalled front will continue to produce heavy rainfall over the next few days which could lead to isolated flooding. Impacted Lanes: I-25, I-40, I-80, I-90, I-5, I-86, I-84, I-15, I-70, I-95


New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 AM MST Friday morning

  • Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches except between 5 and 12 inches above 7500 feet across the Northern Mountains. Ice accumulations around a light glaze across Union and Harding counties.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Tire chains may be necessary if traveling through mountain passes. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. This includes portions of the I-25 corridor from Glorieta Pass to Raton Pass, and the I-40 corridor through Tijeras Canyon. The weight of heavy wet snow may lead to power outages from broken tree limbs and downed power lines.

U.S. Weather Update 12.13.23

Summary:
A powerful system will continue to bring winter impacts to southern and eastern Alaska through the day. Lake effect snow will continue downwind of the Great Lakes. Moderate to heavy snow is expected to impact portions of the Southern Rockies and High Plains through Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-5, I-90, I-86, I-84, I-15, I-80, I-25, I-280, I-680, I-27, I-70, I-81


New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 AM MST Friday morning

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 to 12 inches below 7,500 feet with higher amounts of 10 to 24 inches above 7,500 feet. Up to one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible in Union and Harding counties. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Some roads may be closed. Significant travel delays are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 AM MST Friday morning

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts up to 12 inches atop the Sandia Crest. Up to one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible in the Central Highlands. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Tire traction will be reduced. Extend the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. This includes along portions of I-40. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon

  • Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Idaho
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one mile or less in freezing fog. Some of the fog will be locally dense with visibility below one- quarter mile.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility and potential ice on roadways.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Lake-effect snow will develop downwind from the Great Lakes through Wednesday. A strong storm will impact Alaska with heavy precipitation and high winds. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-84, I-82, I-5, I-680, I-280, I-15, I-25, I-75, I-90, I-81


Wyoming
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MST this afternoon

  • A mix of snow and freezing drizzle through Tuesday morning. Areas of dense freezing fog expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Reduced visibility in fog, with fog becoming more widespread with visibility down to near zero at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. 

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM MST this afternoon

  • Visibility less than one quarter mile in freezing fog. Occasional freezing drizzle mixed with snow.
  • Impacts: Periods of freezing drizzle and light snow, combined with very low visibility and freezing fog, will result in hazardous travel conditions this morning across southeast Wyoming. Please use extra caution over the Interstate 80 Summit and bridges.

Oregon
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

New York 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST Wednesday evening

  • Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute tonight and the morning commute Wednesday.

Summary:
Heavy snow across interior portions of New England, heavy rain closer to the coast, will slowly come to and end as gusty winds are expected across all of the Northeast corridor through this evening. A fast moving cold front with snow showers and gusty winds are forecast across the Plains and Great Lakes through Tuesday. A strong storm will impact Alaska with heavy precipitation and high winds. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-86, I-15, I-94, I-29, I-90, I-40, I-81, I-77, I-79, I-68, I-195, I-95, I-87, I-91, I-495, I-93, I-89


New York 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Lingering light snow, with storm totals of 4 to 9 inches with the highest totals above 1,500 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute today.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Snow. Total accumulations 1 to 5 inches with the highest accumulations at locations above 1,500 feet. Patchy freezing drizzle possible through mid morning.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Maine
Flood Warning remains in effect until 1:15 PM EST this afternoon

  • Urban area and small stream flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Numerous power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 5 inches for a storm total of 2 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: A snowstorm will bring snow to the region. The snow could become moderate to heavy at times. Wet snow clinging to tree limbs will lead to scattered power outages. The snow will produce low visibility and create dangerous driving conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is expected.
  • Impacts: Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 9 inches. The highest totals will be closest to the Canadian border to the west of the Allagash Region. Only a few inches of snow accumulation are expected in the populated areas of the St. John Valley. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour will make travel very hazardous. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches as snow will be heavy and wet.

New Jersey
Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:30 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:00 AM EST this morning

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Minor roadway flooding is possible leading to some partial or full road closures, mainly along the back bays of Ocean County. 

North Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning 

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Summary:
A strong cold front travels across the Plains Friday, Great Lakes to Gulf Coast Saturday, then arrives at the East Coast on Sunday with areas of showers and storms expected. Cold high pressure in the wake of the front will bring areas of gusty winds and snow to the Rockies and Northern Plains Friday into Saturday. Severe thunderstorms will be possible late Saturday from east Texas into the South. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-5, I-90, I-15, I-86, I-84, I-70, I-25, I-40, I-17, I-10, I-94, I-29, I-35


Utah
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 18 inches, locally up to 2 feet in the Upper Cottonwoods.
  • Impacts: Winter driving conditions are expected on all mountain routes including the Cottonwood Canyons, Logan Summit and Parleys Summit on Interstate 80. Blowing and drifting snow may reduce visibilities to near 0 at times on US-89 on Logan Summit.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Winter driving conditions can be expected including during the Friday morning and evening commutes.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 PM PST this evening

  • Northeast winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds may blow down large objects such as trees and power lines. Power outages are likely. Travel will be difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Northeast winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Areas of north to northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Isolated gusts to 60 mph near Montecito Hills this evening.

Kansas 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. 
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Washington
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 AM PST Sunday  morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways.
