Summary:
Heavy to excessive rainfall will occur in Southern California today. Flash flooding and mud/debris flows are possible, especially in wildfire burn scars. Gusty winds are also expected, as well as mountain snow above 7000 feet. This weekend, heavy snow is possible for the High Plains, and heavy rain may fall over southern Arizona, the Gulf Coast, and the lower Mississippi Valley. California
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning
- Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
- Impacts: Flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over roadways.
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST this morning
- Minor coastal flooding expected.
- Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.
Flood Watch remains in effect until 9 PM PST Friday evening
- Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
- Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Saturday morning
- Snow expected locally as low as 6500 feet. Total snow accumulations of up to 10 inches above 8000 feet.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact higher mountain highways.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning
- Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations six to twelve inches in the Southern Sierra Nevada above 9,000 feet. Additional snowfall three to six inches in the Southern Sierra Nevada below 9,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning
- Visibility less than a quarter of a mile in dense fog.
- Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PST this morning
- Southeast to south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Isolated gusts to 60 mph are possible on favored mountain peaks.
- Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles. Travel may be affected on area roadways by gusty cross winds, including Highways 33 and Interstate 5. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
North Carolina
Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 AM EST Friday morning
- Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall will continue.
- Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.
New Mexico
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning
- Visibility occasionally down to one-quarter mile or less.
- Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning
- Visibility as low as one quarter mile in freezing fog.
- Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. This includes along I-40 from Gallup to the Continental Divide and U.S. Highway 60 west of the Very Large Array. Bridges and overpasses may become slick with a light glaze of ice.
