Summary:
A wet pattern will continue across the Pacific Northwest through Tuesday where locally heavy rainfall is expected. Critical fire weather conditions continue this evening over the Leeward areas of most of the Hawaiian Islands. Another batch of fire weather concerns will be possible across eastern New Mexico and part of the Texas Panhandle Tuesday. California 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Scattered snow showers. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches at the higher elevations. Local additional accumulations up to 6 inches over the peaks.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

An unsettling weather pattern will continue to produce heavy to excessive rainfall to the Pacific Northwest through Monday. Localized flooding may be possible. A low pressure system moving across the Northern Plains is likely to produce light to moderate snow and rain over the next few days. Dry conditions persist over Hawaii where fire weather concerns continue through late Monday. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-80, I-70, I-135, I-35, I-10

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Tuesday afternoon

  • Snow expected above 8000 feet. Total snow accumulations of two to four inches from 8000 to 9000 feet. Total snow amounts of four to six inches from 9000 to 10000 feet. Total snow accumulations of six to twelve inches above 10000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds may bring down tree branches.

The Lower 48 remains very tranquil with no real weather hazards and this will continue into the weekend. However, the Pacific Northwest into northern California will be a bit unsettled the next few days through the weekend with rounds of heavy to excessive rain. Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

High Wind Watch remains in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Locally heavy rain and a marginal risk for flooding is possible across the Pacific Northwest into far northern California over the next day. The heavy rain threat may return to the Northwest over the weekend. Meanwhile, widespread record low temperatures are likely Thursday morning from Texas to Maine and these below normal conditions will persist into the daytime across the East and South.   • Mixed precipitation of freezing rain, rain and snow expected. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Travel could be affected due to light ice accumulations. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

South Carolina

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected along shorelines and tidal waterways.

It will be chilly with below normal temperatures across the Eastern half of the U.S. on Wednesday. In fact, widespread record lows are expected from the south-central Plains into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys in the morning. Meanwhile, elevated to critical fire weather threats are likely in the central Gulf Coast region. Finally, rain will arrive in the Pacific Northwest and may produce flooding.   • Lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph near the lakeshore.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Lake effect snow continues with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour possible this morning. The highest snowfall accumulations will be expected south of I-90, where temperatures will be cold enough to sustain snow.

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Heavy lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. A heavy lake effect snow band will continue across Ashtabula County during the pre-dawn hours this morning. Snowfall rates of one inch per hour will occur with this band. The highest snowfall accumulations will be expected south of I-90, where temperatures will be cold enough to sustain snow.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM EDT Tuesday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches are forecast tonight with potential for locally higher amounts. The heaviest snow accumulations will be in the higher terrain of the north - central Keweenaw Peninsula between Hancock and Phoenix.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with heavy snowfall rates reducing visibility and leading to rapidly changing road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:00 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 10:30 PM CDT this evening

  • Another round of excessive rainfall is possible, especially through the morning hours which may result in flooding.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze.
  • Impacts: The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.

Texas
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 3 PM CDT Thursday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water over roadways. 

South Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.
