Heavy rain, gusty winds, storm surge, high surf and rip currents that could be life threatening, will impact the Mid-Atlantic through this weekend. Meanwhile, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to affect portions of the central U.S. including heavy to excessive rainfall through this weekend. For the Intermountain region, below normal temperatures and some snow for the higher elevations. Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 PM MDT Saturday afternoon
- West winds 35 to 45 MPH with gusts up to 65 MPH expected.
- Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.
North Carolina
Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EDT Saturday evening
- Wind: Peak Wind Forecast: 30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph
- Impacts: Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, especially if soils are saturated. Some roadway signs will sustain damage. A few roads will be impassable from debris. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. Scattered power and communications outages.
- Storm Surge: Life-threatening storm surge possible. Peak Storm Surge Inundation: The potential for 2-4 feet above ground somewhere within surge prone areas.
- Impacts: Severe storm surge flooding will likely cause inundation of numerous roads and buildings, resulting in a threat to life and property. Flooding will likely extend inland from the waterfront and shoreline flooding homes, businesses and isolating some neighborhoods. Large breaking waves will result in additional damage near the shoreline. Numerous roads flooded or washed out.
- Flooding Rain: Flood Watch is in effect. Peak Rainfall Amounts: Additional 3-6 inches, with locally higher amounts.
- Impacts: Flooding from heavy rainfall may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen, with swift currents, and overspill their banks. Small streams, creeks, and ditches overflow. Flood waters can enter some structures and/or weaken foundations. Some areas may experience areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures are expected.
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM EDT Saturday evening
- Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
- Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways.
New Jersey
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EDT Saturday evening
- Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
- Impacts: Flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EDT Saturday evening
- One to three feet of inundation above ground level expected in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
- Impacts: Widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Many roads become impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT Saturday evening
- Northeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
- Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT Saturday evening
- Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
- Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Nebraska
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning
- Dense fog with visibilities of a quarter mile or less.
- Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to dense fog.
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning
- Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
- Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems. Water over roadways is expected.
Montana
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon
- Wet snow above 6500 Feet. Additional snow accumulations of one to two inches.
- Impacts: Travel could be affected.
Illinois
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning
- Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
- Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.
