Summary:
Colder than normal temperatures across much of the west with showers and some snow for the higher terrain of the northern Intermountain West and Rockies through the end of the week. Strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for portions of the Plains through Friday. Gusty winds, heavy rain, and high surf likely for the Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic Friday and into the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-15, I-94, I-86, I-80, I-29


South Dakota
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Montana
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Wet snow expected above 6500 Feet. Total snow accumulations 1 to 2 inches. Above 7500 feet 2 to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. The more intense showers could drive snow levels down below 6500 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Florida
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:15 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Minnesota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Illinois
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Thursday evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Winds could also blow around unsecured objects. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Oklahoma
Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

A frontal system and a wave of low pressure will bring another round of rain, locally heavy with isolated instances of flash flooding, across the Northeast today. Meanwhile, strong winds and low humidity levels could result in rapid spread of any fires that initiate across portions of Montana and interior Pacific Northwest today. In addition, late summer temperatures forecast for the heartland. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-76, I-195, I-80, I-95, I-84, I-91, I-295, I-395, I-495, I-93


Illinois 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

Kentucky
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.

Hurricane Lee will continue moving north towards New England and the Atlantic Canada. Tropical-Storm-Force or stronger winds, life-threatening storm surge, and heavy rain can be expected across New England. Dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents will continue across the U.S. East Coast, Puerto Rico, and USVI. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-20, I-70, I-35, I-80, I-16


Georgia
Flash Flood Warning  remains in effect until 12:45 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Massachusetts 
Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Wind: 30-40 mph with gusts to 60 mph
  • Impacts: A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. Scattered power and communications outages. 
  • Flooding Rain: Peak Rainfall Amounts: around 1 inch
  • Impacts: A few places where rapid ponding of water occurs at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Several storm drains and retention ponds become near-full and begin to overflow. Some brief road and bridge closures.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM Saturday afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM Saturday afternoon

  • 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

Swells from Lee will produce dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents across the U.S. East Coast, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-25, I-80, I-15, I-70


North Carolina
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 12 PM EDT Saturday 

  • 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Up to 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in some areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in an elevated threat of property damage. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront threatening some homes and businesses. Inundation of portions of Hwy 12 around high tide is likely. Water is expected over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT Friday evening

  • 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Texas
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over roadways. 

New Mexico
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. 

South Dakota

A heat wave will persist in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Thursday and linger all week in Texas and neighboring states. Tropical Storm Lee is forecast to become a major hurricane over the western tropical Atlantic by this weekend and could bring impacts to the Leeward Islands by that time. Impacted Lanes: I-74, I-65, I-94, I-80, I-90, I-290, I-196, I-165


Illinois
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. 
  • Impacts: Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and other poor drainage areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. Water is over roadways.

North Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road begin to observe minor coastal flooding. Water begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington. Some roads may be closed due to water over them.
