Summary:
A dangerous heat wave will continue across parts of the central and southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Gulf Coast with daytime heat indices approaching or exceeding 110F. Thunderstorms, some severe, may contribute to flash flooding across portions of the Four Corners Region and the central/southern Rockies; parts of the Mid-Mississippi Valley; and the North Central Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-70, I-44, I-40, I-25


Missouri
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:45 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.
     

Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Water may be over some roadways. 
     

Delaware 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EDT Wednesday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Strong high pressure centered over Texas will produce high heat and humidity across the South-Central U.S.. Strong showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain will be possible around the outer edges of this ridge, including the Southwest, High Plains, Gulf Coast States, and the Southeast. Impacted Lanes: I-8, I-29, I-80, I-35, I-75, I-20, I-22


California
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6:30 AM PDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Delaware

Summary:
Summer heat wave builds across the central and eastern U.S. and excessive heat continues in the Southwest. An upper level system may produce storms capable of damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, and heavy rain in the Great Lakes. The tail end of this system may also spark severe storms in the Plains. Critical fire weather in place for parts of the Northwestern U.S. and interior Alaska. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-81, I-87, I-91, I-93


Illinois 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Friday morning

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Vermont
Flood Watch remains in effect until 9 PM EDT this evening

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

The main story this week will be the continued excessive summer heat across the U.S. For much of July hot dangerous conditions have been the normal in parts of the West, Texas and Florida. These summer conditions will build and expand across the Eastern two-thirds of the country this week, starting in the north-central states and Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-77, I-75, I-10, I-29, I-64, I-264, I-95

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.

A dangerous, long-lived, and record-breaking heat wave will continue over the Southwest well into next week with triple digit high temperatures also extending northward into the central Great Basin this weekend. Oppressive heat and humidity are forecast to create widespread 105-110 degree heat indices across the Mid-South, Southeast, and Gulf Coast through early this weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-91, I-89, I-93, I-35, I-44, I-22, I-69, I-49, I-40


Alabama
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Oklahoma
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Maine
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Vermont
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

Tropical Storm Calvin will pass very close to the Big Island of Hawaii through Wednesday bringing a period of heavy rain, high surf and locally strong winds. The heat wave will continue in the Southwest, South Central U.S., and South Florida with record breaking heat is expected each day through midweek. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires will continue to bring poor air quality to parts of the Northern and Central U.S. into the East. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will move off the coastline provide a well needed break to start the week.
