Summary:
Severe thunderstorms and heavy rains that may lead to isolated areas of flash flooding will impact portions of the Central and Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusty winds may pose an elevated to critical fire weather across large portions of New Mexico, far southeastern Arizona and southwest Texas. Impacted Lanes: I-29, I-94, I-80, I-25, I-90, I-70


Colorado
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Wednesday morning 

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Arizona
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up from 40 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. In addition, winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Trees are more susceptible to blowing down due to saturated soil conditions from snow melt. Areas of blowing dust may develop.

California
Flood Advisory remains in effect until further notice

  • Flooding caused by upstream dam release continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. River or stream flows are elevated.

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Flooding caused by upstream dam release continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Several structures are flooded and some sand bagging operations are continuing. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. 

North Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Friday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.

Summary:
Frost/Freeze conditions are expected across most of the central Plains and the Midwest through early Monday morning. Meanwhile, low pressure will track across the Northwest portion of our nation and move across the Intermountain West and Rockies through early this week. Periods of rain, mountain snow, are expected where precipitation could be locally heavy accompanied by gusty winds. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-29, I-90, I-84, US-81


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and the weight of heavy, wet snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel will be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 8 inches on mountain peaks.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and the weight of heavy, wet snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

North Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Idaho
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT Tuesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches above 6500 feet MSL and up to 2 inches below 6500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Blowing snow will reduce visibility in places such as Interstate 15 through Monida Pass.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM MDT Tuesday morning

  • West wind 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Weakened trees and large branches may drop to the ground.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Streams and creeks running high. Water over a few roadways.

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain which could produce flooding are possible from parts of mid Mississippi Valley southwestward into the Ark-La-Tex and central Texas this afternoon and tonight. Heavy snow and some icing will continue across the Upper Midwest into early Friday as a low pressure system moves through the region. South Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Locally higher gusts possible.
  • Impacts: Plan on slick spots on roads. The combination of snow and gusty winds will create blowing snow, reducing visibilities at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

North Dakota

A frontal system will bring potential for severe storms with large to giant hail, damaging winds, and locally heavy rain from the south Plains to the Midwest. Gusty, dry winds will keep fire weather threats elevated to critical in the south and central High Plains. Heavy snow continues for parts of the Northwest mountains to the north Plains.   • Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches, mainly over the higher hills. Winds gusting 35 to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be impacted by snow, areas of poor visibility and strong west to northwest winds. The interstate and major highways are expected to stay wet, except for the higher passes which may see slushy conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Wednesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday evening commute. Gusty winds and heavy wet snow could bring down tree branches.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow and strong winds expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 7 inches, with locally higher accumulations to 12 inches possible on the western sides and foothills of the mountains. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Strong winds and wet snow could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches above 9,000 feet. 2 to 5 inches expected at Union Pass, and 1 to 3 inches at South Pass. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, including in the backcountry.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 PM MDT Wednesday afternoon

  • West winds 35 to 50 MPH with frequent gusts up to 75 MPH expected. Wind gusts may occasionally exceed 80 MPH.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Meanwhile, snowmelt continues to produce flooding across the Upper Midwest and parts of the Intermountain West. A new system in the Northwest will bring rain, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds. Florida
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
  • Impacts: Historic rainfall has occurred in the Fort Lauderdale metro area the past 36 hours. Despite the heavy rain coming to an end this evening, numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Montana
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Water over roadways.

Colorado 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT Saturday morning

  • Snow expected, heavy at times this afternoon into this evening. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Snow covered roads will make travel hazardous, especially through mountain passes. Use caution when traveling. Difficult travel conditions are likely during the Friday evening commute.

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding between 1 and 2 feet above normal tide expected. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected, especially during high tide cycles.

  • Occasional wet snow. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulation between 3 and 5 inches in the valleys, and between 6 and 12 inches in the mountains.

U.S. Weather Update 4.12.23

Summary:
Isolated severe thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall and localized flooding to parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast through Thursday. Dry and windy conditions may produce widespread elevated fire weather conditions across portions of the High Plains and central Plains into the Midwest and the Northeast. Impacted Lanes: I-10, I-12, I-55, I-310, I-59, I-15, I-90


Montana 
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Water over roadways.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches at lower elevations, with 8 to 12 inches over mountain passes, with higher amounts above pass level.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be difficult and visibility at times could be below one half mile. Isolated power outages possible due to the heavy wet snow.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Louisiana 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding between 1 and 2 feet above normal tide expected. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Coastal flooding of between 1 and 3 feet above normal high tide expected. 
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated.

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Water over roads is possible.
