A series of weather systems moving through the Northwest will bring locally heavy rain, heavy mountain snow, and areas of high winds. Heavy rain could cause localized flooding to parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast into late week. Anomalously warm temperatures may cause potential flooding from snowmelt across the Northern Plains to the Upper Great Lakes. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-80, I-15, I-10, I-55, I-12


Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris and damage property. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt is occurring.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Southwest winds gusting up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 from Livingston to Big Timber and roads along the Beartooth Foothills. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects.

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding between 1 and 2 feet above normal tide expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Coastal flooding of between 1 and 3 feet above normal high tide expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM CDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be under water. Low lying property may be inundated.

Summary:
A slow moving front continues to produce heavy rain that could cause flash flooding in the central Gulf Coast. Dry, gusty winds are producing fire weather threats in the Plains and Northeast. In the Pacific Northwest, a fast moving system will bring several inches of high elevation and blowing snow across the West. Locally heavy thunderstorms may cause flooding in Puerto Rico, and Yap and Palau. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-49, I-10, I-35, I-45, I-12, I-55, I-59, I-22, I-65, I-75, I-40, I-24, I-80, I-5, I-84, I-90


California

Louisiana 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Roadways near rivers become impassable as rivers rise. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening

  • Flash Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as highly urbanized locations with poor drainage.

As the strong cold front continue to move east, severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of the southern Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic and across southern/coastal Texas Scattered flash flooding is expected in southeast Texas to the Mid-South through Friday. A Pacific Front will bring heavy coastal rain and high elevation snow to the Pacific Northwest and northern California. An intensifying storm will bring high winds and extremely critical fire weather in the Southwest, blizzard conditions and wind chills below zero in the north Plains, and another significant severe weather outbreak in areas that experienced recent severe weather impacts. Severe storms across much of the Mississippi Valley may produce strong tornadoes, damaging winds, and very large hail.   • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a glaze to two tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Highest ice accumulations expected on flat, elevated surfaces with lesser amounts on round surfaces like branches and power lines. Isolated power outages possible due to ice and gusty winds. Plan on slick road conditions this evening and tonight. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EDT Wednesday morning

  • Significant icing possible. Total snow accumulations of one to two inches and ice accumulations of one quarter to four tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Highest ice accumulations expected on flat, elevated surfaces with lesser amounts on round surfaces like branches and power lines. Localized power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice and strong wind gusts. Travel could be very difficult to impossible at times, especially Tuesday night. These travel conditions may continue into the Wednesday morning commute.

  • Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to three tenths of an inch. East winds of 30 to 40 mph gusting as high as 60 mph, especially near the Lake Superior shoreline and in higher terrain areas. 
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Heavy snow and blizzard conditions with bitter wind chills will extend from the Intermountain West to the Upper Midwest. High winds will produce difficult travel across the West and the Plains, which will keep fire weather threats critical in the south and central High Plains. South Dakota

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 17 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Tuesday evening

  • Periods of snow, heavy at times. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches. Areas of blowing snow at times.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult at times.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Tuesday evening

  • Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches expected with locally higher amounts in northern Laramie county. Freezing drizzle is also possible Monday evening. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Arizona 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects may become airborne. Minor tree damage possible.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Southwest winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Areas of blowing dust are likely in the Little Colorado River Valley and could reduce visibilities, especially for travelers on Interstate 40 from Winslow to the New Mexico border.

U.S. Weather Update 3.30.23

Summary:
Heavy snow will extend from the mountains of California and the Intermountain West into the Northern Plains. Gusty to strong winds may produce critical fire weather risks over portions of the Central and Southern High Plains. Multi-hazard impacts will stretch from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes by Friday into the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-17, I-70, I-90, I-94, I-15, I-84, I-25, I-49, I-44, I-35, I-30, I-55, I-69, 


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT this evening

  • Heavy snow. Snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches at lower elevations, with 6 to 12 inches over higher terrain.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult at times. Those in the backcountry should ensure they are prepared for dangerous conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Snow. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous once the sun sets. Plan on difficult road conditions to impact the Friday morning commute. 

New Mexico
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways, that may make travel difficult.

Summary:
A strong Pacific storm will will continue to bring additional rounds of heavy rain, mountain snow, high winds and colder temperatures to the portions of the West Coast through Thursday. Snow showers and squalls could disrupt travel in the Northeast Wednesday afternoon and evening. A strong storm is forecast to develop over the central Plains Thursday where it will bring threats of heavy snow. Impacted Lanes: I-15, I-84, I-80, I-5


Idaho
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 9 inches, except 6 to 16 inches on ridge tops and elevations above passes.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 15 inches, except 9 to 19 inches on ridge tops and elevations above passes.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Moderate wind could cause heavy drifting, making it difficult to keep roads clear of snow.

Arizona 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MST Thursday evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 45-50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could topple or blow around unsecured objects. Strong cross winds could affect high profile vehicles. Winds may produce areas of blowing dust, especially along Interstate 10 near the Willcox Playa and between Willcox and the New Mexico state line.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Thursday afternoon

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high profile vehicles.
