A strong storm moving from the Bering Sea into the Gulf of Alaska will likely bring high winds to the Aleutians and parts of southeast Alaska with gale to storm force winds over the waters Friday into Saturday. Meanwhile, moderate to major river flooding is forecast throughout the Florida Peninsula through the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-26, I-95, I-75, I-5

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Significant coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property and critical infrastructure
    will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Some flooding of low-lying lots, parks and roadways may occur near the shoreline. Only isolated road closures are expected.

Summary:
Milton is moving off the Florida East Coast this morning. Gradual weakening is expected with Milton forecast to become a powerful extratropical low tonight well off the southeast U.S. coast. Life-threatening storm surge, heavy to excessive rainfall, and damaging hurricane-force winds, especially in gusts, will continue for a few more hours this morning over east-central and northeastern Florida. Impacted Lanes: I-75, I-95, I-4, I-10, I-26, I-526, I-77, I-20, I-75, I-16


Florida
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Hurricane Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Wind: Equivalent Tropical Storm force wind; Peak Wind Forecast: 35-45 mph with gusts to 65 mph; Potential for wind 74 to 110 mph.
  • Impacts: Several large trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Several fences and roadway signs blown over. Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. A few bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent in areas with above ground lines.
  • Flooding Rain: Peak Rainfall Amounts: Additional 3-6 inches, with locally higher amounts
  • Impacts: Localized rainfall flooding may prompt a few evacuations. Rivers and tributaries may quickly rise with swifter currents. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may become swollen and overflow in spots. Flood waters can enter a few structures, especially in usually vulnerable spots. A few places where rapid ponding of water occurs at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Several storm drains and retention ponds become near-full and begin to overflow. Some road and bridge closures.

Storm Surge Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Life-threatening storm surge possible;  The potential for 3-5 feet above ground somewhere within surge prone areas.
  • Impacts: Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast. Sections of near-shore escape routes and roads become weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low spots.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected along shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Significant saltwater inundation will render numerous roads impassable. Properties may also flood.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this evening

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected along shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Saltwater inundation will impact some roads.

Hurricane Milton is forecast to make landfall along the West Coast of the Florida Peninsula late Wednesday night. Destructive, potentially catastrophic storm surge, very heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes along the West Coast will begin during the day Wednesday. Florida
Hurricane Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Wind: Equivalent Tropical Storm force wind; Peak Wind Forecast: 35-45 mph with gusts to 65 mph; Potential for wind 58 to 73 mph
  • Impacts: Several large trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Several fences and roadway signs blown over. Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. A few bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent in areas with above ground lines.

Milton has intensified into a major hurricane and is expected to make landfall along the West Coast of the Florida Peninsula early Thursday morning. Hurricane, Tropical Storm and Storm Surge warnings have been issued. Heavy rainfall from Milton will result in widespread flash flooding Wednesday across central Florida, with life-threatening and catastrophic flooding probable. Hurricane Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Wind: Cat 1 Hurricane force wind; Peak Wind Forecast: 60-80 mph with gusts to 90 mph
  • Impacts: Considerable roof damage to sturdy buildings, with some having window, door, and garage door failures leading to structural damage. Mobile homes severely damaged, with some destroyed. Damage accentuated by airborne projectiles. Locations may be uninhabitable for weeks. Many large trees snapped or uprooted along with fences and roadway signs blown over. Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. Several bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. Large areas with power and communications outages.

Milton continues to intensify in the Gulf of Mexico today. Heavy rainfall ahead of Milton continues today with localized flooding concerns. This hurricane will approach the west coast of Florida during the middle of the week. Significant impacts are likely with a large and powerful hurricane at landfall in Florida, with life-threatening hazards along portions of the coastline. Florida
Hurricane Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • There is an increasing risk of life-threating storm surge and damaging winds for portions of the west coast of the Florida Peninsula beginning Tuesday night or early Wednesday.  
  • Impacts: Areas of heavy rainfall will impact portions of Florida today well ahead of Milton, with heavy rainfall more directly related to the system expected later on Tuesday through Wednesday night. This rainfall will bring risk of considerable flash, urban, and areal flooding, along with the potential for moderate to major river flooding.

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Montana
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MDT this morning

  • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph occurring.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 from Livingston to Big Timber and roads along the Beartooth Foothills. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 1:45 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 AM EDT Wednesday morning

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM EDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

Summary:
Helene will continue to bring catastrophic and life-threatening extreme rainfall and flooding threats through at least midday for the southern Appalachians where upslope flow should increase rain totals and varying terrain is likely to lead to landslides. Tornadoes will be most likely during the morning and remain possible into the afternoon across parts of the Carolinas and southern Virginia. Impacted Lanes: I-85, I-59, I-24, I-40, I-75, I-26, I-77, I-65, I-64, I-55, I-70, I-69, I-71, I-95, I-5


Georgia
Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Wind Below tropical storm force wind; Peak Wind Forecast: 20-30 mph with gusts to 45 mph; Potential for wind 58 to 73 mph 
  • Impacts: Unsecured lightweight objects become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Several fences and roadway signs blown over. Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. A few bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent in areas with above ground lines.
  • Flooding Rain Peak Rainfall Amounts: Additional around 1 inch. Potential for extreme flooding rain.
  • Impacts: Extreme rainfall flooding may prompt numerous evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overwhelmingly overflow their banks in many places with deep moving water. Small streams, creeks, canals, arroyos, and ditches may become raging rivers. In mountain areas, deadly runoff may rage down valleys while increasing susceptibility to rockslides and mudslides. Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed. Flood waters can enter numerous structures within multiple communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washed away. Numerous places where flood waters may cover escape routes. Streets and parking lots become rivers of raging water with underpasses submerged. Driving conditions become very dangerous. Numerous road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out.

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 2:15 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 2:15 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Minor flooding is occurring.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Water over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2:15 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water may be over roadways.

Tennessee 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Water over roadways. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water may be over roadways. 

California
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog for the Central Coast and Santa Ynez Valley.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
