Summary:
A winter storm will bring a stripe of heavy snow and strong winds from the Four Corners through the central High Plains Tuesday and Wednesday before extending into the Upper Midwest and possibly the Great Lakes Thursday and Friday. A corridor of ice is also possible. The southern end of the storm's cold front could produce severe thunderstorms from the ArkLaTex to the Ohio Valley midweek. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-10, I-8, I-17, I-70


Oregon
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM PST Tuesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, except 2 to 8 inches below 2000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.

Texas 
High Wind Watch remains in effect until Tuesday afternoon

  • West winds 35 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible. 
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Blowing dust is expected during the afternoon possibly reducing visibilities to 3 to 5 miles. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • West winds 45 to 65 mph with gusts up to 95 mph expected in the Guadalupe Mountains. West winds 30 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph expected in the Davis Mountains, adjacent foothills, and the Guadalupe Mountain foothills.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

A storm will move into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Thursday before moving into eastern Canada on Friday. A band of heavy snow will impact travel across parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, and upper Michigan Thursday then a wintry mix is forecast for parts of New England Thursday night. High winds from this storm could cause some power outages and damage from parts of Indiana to western New York.   • South to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Missouri
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Wet snow. Additional snow accumulations around half an inch in the KC Metro, with additional 1 to 2 inches in North Central Missouri. Highest accumulations are anticipated across North Central and Northeast MO, where event totals of 3 to 4 inches are possible. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibilities. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Moisture tracking into the Pacific Northwest will bring heavy lower elevation/coastal rain and mountain snow.   • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches on the plains, with between 5 and 10 inches at and above pass level. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult to impossible and tire chains may be required for some vehicles. Those in the backcountry should ensure they have appropriate knowledge and gear and may want to consider alternate plans. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

A powerful cold front will sweep completely through the Northeastern U.S. by Friday morning to deliver a glancing shot of arctic air to the region through Saturday. Dangerous wind chills are likely and widespread wind chill warnings and advisories are already in effect for all of New England and parts of the Northeast.   • Visibility less than one quarter of a mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. Patchy icing could develop from the freezing fog.

Maine 
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST Saturday evening

  • Ground blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions with drifting snow. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes. Isolated to scattered power outages are possible.

The epic ice storm across the South and Mid-South will end today from west to east. A system tracking near the Gulf Coast will clear-out the frozen mess, while also producing heavy rain and perhaps a severe thunderstorm for the Gulf Coast states. Meanwhile, a glancing shot of arctic air will sweep through the Northeastern U.S. on Friday to produce very dangerous wind chills through Saturday. Impacted Lanes: I-35, I-95, I-20, I-45, I-30, I-10, I-49, I-40, I-69, I-55, I-22, I-65


Texas
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Significant icing expected. Additional ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch will be possible over the warning area.
  • Impacts: The numerous power outage and tree damage threat is ongoing as ice accumulations continue to increase. Very hazardous travel conditions with any non-emergency travel being discouraged. 

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Significant icing. Up to 1/10 of an inch of additional ice accumulation. Storm total ice accumulation around 1/4 of an inch. 
  • Impacts: Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause power outages. Difficult travel conditions are likely.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Light freezing rain. Additional ice accumulations up to a few hundredths of an inch.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will likely impact the morning commute.

A solid core of cold air with well-below normal temperatures continues to interact with increasing moisture for an extensive stretch of ice with some sleet. This regime will continue through Wednesday with the potential for additional and significant ice accretion, especially in portions of Texas. Texas
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Freezing rain is expected today and tonight across the area. Sleet could be mixed with the freezing rain in northern and central parts of the area today, mainly this morning. The precipitation could be moderate to heavy at times. Total ice accumulations of a quarter to one half of an inch are possible, with localized higher amounts.

  • Significant icing expected. Additional ice accumulations of a quarter to three quarters of an inch will be possible over the warning area.
  • Impacts: Numerous power outages and tree damage will become more likely due to increasing ice. Very hazardous travel conditions with any non-emergency travel being discouraged.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Thursday afternoon

  • Wintry mix expected. Light snow accumulations along with freezing rain and sleet.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Bridges will freeze before roadways.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low- water crossings may be flooded.

Florida 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 PM MST this afternoon

  • Sustained west winds 35 to 45 MPH with gusts up to 70 MPH. Significant blowing and drifting snow is likely.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight and high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers. Expect dangerous travel conditions due to icy roadways and blowing snow.

California 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM PST this afternoon

  • North winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Isolated gusts to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

Summary:
A glancing blow of arctic air mixed with a surge in moisture is setting the stage for an extensive and very dangerous ice event. The most likely corridor of icing with a mixture of sleet will occur from west-central Texas to the Tennessee and Lower Ohio Valleys. The ice accretion from Texas into Mid South may approach a half inch or more through Wednesday and cause power outages and travel issues. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-45, I-35, I-30, I-10, I-55, I-25, I-40, I-22, I-65, I-840, I-24, I-75, I-64, I-79, I-77, I-49, U.S.285, U.S. 60


Oklahoma 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday evening

  • Heavy sleet and freezing rain, especially Wednesday. Additional sleet accumulations of up to one half inch. Ice accumulations over one quarter inch are expected.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

  • An additional round of freezing rain and sleet are expected this afternoon through Wednesday morning. Ice accruals should be between one quarter to one half inch. Sleet accumulations should be less than a tenth of an inch.
  • Impacts: Difficult travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST Wednesday morning

  • Significant icing. Additional ice accumulations of near one quarter of an inch.
  • Impacts: Bridges and overpasses could become slick resulting in travel impacts this morning. Those impacts will continue through the day and especially into the overnight hours. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility less than one-half mile in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility and a light glaze of ice could make driving conditions hazardous. This includes I-25 between Raton and Las Vegas, I-40 between Clines Corners and Santa Rosa, U.S. 285 between Roswell and Clines Corners, and U.S. 60 between Fort Sumner and Vaughn.

Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. In addition, blowing and drifting snow is likely to create significant reduction in visibility at times.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Blowing and drifting snow expected to significantly reduce visibility. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility at times with drifting snow encroaching on some roadways where a deep snowcover exists. Gusty winds will combine with poor visibility and icy roads to make travel difficult.

Georgia
Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: At 11 feet, Minor flooding expands into the woodland areas upstream and downstream from the stream gage on Georgia Highway 90. Larger portions of roads will flood.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM this afternoon

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

The interaction of an arctic air mass and moisture will set the stage for an expansive area of dangerous travel conditions early in the week. A zone of freezing rain and drizzle along with some sleet is very likely from parts of Texas to the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Meanwhile, heavy rain and flooding will remain in the forecast for a large portion of the Hawaiian Islands on Monday. Texas
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Wednesday morning

  • Mixed precipitation, primarily in the form of freezing rain and/or sleet is expected. Total ice or sleet accumulations between one tenth and one half of an inch are possible.
  • Impacts: Significant impacts to travel may begin as early as Monday afternoon and continue through at least Tuesday night. Elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses will likely be the first to become icy, slick, and hazardous as temperatures hover around or below freezing.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Light freezing rain, possibly mixing with sleet is expected. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Light icing of bridges and overpasses may create hazardous driving conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Arkansas
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST Wednesday morning

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: At 10.5 feet, Water deep over Woodruff County Road 775 north of HWY 260, and intersection of HWY 37 and HWY 18 east of Grubbs. Water over roadways.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST Wednesday morning

  • A couple of rounds of light snow, sleet, and light freezing rain are expected. Precipitation should mainly occur today through this evening, and again on Tuesday into Tuesday night. Ice accruals should be less than a quarter inch, with snow and sleet accumulations less than a half inch.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.

New Mexico
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning 

  • Visibility less than one mile in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility and a light glaze of ice could make driving conditions hazardous. This includes Interstate 25 from Raton to Las Vegas, Interstate 40 between Santa Rosa and Clines Corners, U.S. 285 from Clines Corners to Vaughn, U.S. 380 near Picacho, and U.S. 82 near Dunken.

California  
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon

  • North winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Local gusts up to 60 mph in the mountains.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Tuesday morning 

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches below 5000 feet, 4 to 8 inches from 5000 to 6500 feet, and 8 to 14 inches above 6500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening 

  • Light to moderate snow is expected. Additional snowfall of up to two inches possible, highest in the foothills above 3000 feet.
  • Impacts: Very slippery and dangerous road conditions are expected.
