Summary:
Heavy rain may lead to areas of flooding in the lower Mississippi Valley, east Texas and the central Gulf Coast Thursday and Friday. A parade of storms will impact the Western U.S. with multiple rounds of precipitation Thursday into the new year. Gusty winds, lower elevation heavy rain and flooding, and higher elevation/inland heavy snow can be expected. The travel ban is now a travel advisory in Buffalo, New York.  Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-80, I-5, I-84, I-90, I-94, I-76, I-70


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Heavy snow above 3000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Wet snow. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 12 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until Late Saturday evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

New Mexico 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Areas of blowing snow and low visibility are possible.
  • Impacts: Plan on snow packed or icy road conditions. This includes portions of I-40. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM MST this afternoon

  • West to northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Washington
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM PST Friday afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Friday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 1 foot.

Summary:
A series of Pacific storm systems will affect the western U.S. with heavy rain, mountain snow and strong winds into the weekend. Meanwhile, much warmer temperatures are expected through the week for the eastern half of the country. A developing storm across the center and southern portions of the nation will bring increasing threats of rain and some flooding concerns as the system tracks east. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-80, I-90, I-84, I-15, I-70, I-10, I-40, I-17, I-25, I-490, I-87, I-95, Highway 106, I-190, State Route 5, State Route 33, State Route 198


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST Thursday evening

  • Heavy snow expected above 3000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST Thursday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches above 2000 feet with 8 to 12 inches above 3000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with delays.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Avalanche Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • The avalanche danger is HIGH at all elevations. Dangerous avalanche conditions are expected to continue into tomorrow morning.
  • Impacts: A large atmospheric river will bring periods of heavy rain on snow below treeline stressing an already weak snowpack. Strong winds and heavy snowfall at higher elevations will also create widespread areas of unstable snow. Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into lower elevations.

Washington
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Some shoreline erosion will occur.

 Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record.
  • Impacts: At 17.5 feet, the Skokomish River will cause moderate flooding, with deep and quick flood waters inundating some residential areas, many roads, and much of the farm land in the Skokomish Valley. Inundated roads include the Skokomish Valley road, Bourgault Road West, Purdy Cutoff Road, and Highway 106.

Winter Weather Advisory  remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning 

  • Snow above 2500 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph until early Wednesday morning.

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

  • Southwest winds 35 to 39 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

New York
Travel Ban remains in effect for the City of Buffalo until further notice

  • Snow form Winter Storm over weekend has caused a travel ban for the City of Buffalo and some roadways such as Erie County Sections of I-190 and State Routes 5, 33 and 198; All Remain Closed.
  • Impacts: Travel ban will create delays in freight transportation.

Summary:
A strong Pacific storm will approach and affect the western U.S. this week with gusty winds, heavy rain, higher elevation snow and some icing for sheltered valley locations. This will aid in milder temperatures for the eastern two-thirds of the country through this week. Wet conditions may evolve with this milder air for the eastern third of the country, a mix possible for portions of the Plains. Washington
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. Strongest winds expected between 11 AM and 7 PM.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory  remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Snow expected above 2500 feet. Total snow accumulations of 8-12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds, when combined with falling snow, may reduce visibility at times.

Flood Advisory  remains in effect until 4:30 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues.

Summary:
An Arctic front will continue widespread, dangerous cold, with areas of blinding snow squalls and flash freezing over the central and eastern U.S. through the rest of this week. A strong winter storm will form on this front and bring blizzard conditions to the Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes. The eastern U.S. will see heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding ahead of the cold blast. Impacted Lanes: I-70, I-49, I-35, I-44, I-80, I-99


South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Friday Morning

  • Multi-hazard winter storm with a combination of strong winds, very cold temperatures, snow, and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph. Dangerously cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

Summary:
A cold front moving through the northern Rockies, northern Plains, and upper Midwest Wednesday will bring areas of gusty winds, heavy snow and snow squalls, and a sharp drop in temperatures. Bitter cold will spread through much of the country this week while a strong winter storm forms along the front. Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow showers are forecast late this morning through the afternoon. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch, possibly 3 inches in some locations. Winds gusting as high 40 to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 35 to 45 MPH with gusts up to 70 MPH expected. A few gusts may approach 80 MPH due to snow squalls.

A surge of Arctic air behind a cold front crossing the U.S. through the week will bring widespread, dangerous wind chill temperatures through much of the central U.S. and a potential flash freeze from the mid-South to the East Coast.   • Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 4 feet in the most persistent lake snows across the Tug Hill plateau.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes.

Summary:
Heavy snow and blizzard conditions continue to create difficult to impossible travel across the north and central Plains and Upper Midwest. The front will also shift into the East with multiple hazards. Wintry mix moves over parts of the Mid-Atlantic with areas of significant icing possible. Heavy snow will spread over the Northeast. Severe storms will be possible in the Southeast. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-29, I-35, I-94, I-80, I-76, I-68, I-95, I-80, I-86, I-99


Pennsylvania 
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST Friday afternoon

  • Significant icing expected. Ice accumulations of one quarter to one half of an inch. Locally higher amounts up to 0.75 inches on the ridgetops and summits. Snow and sleet accumulations of up to 2 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Friday morning

  • Heavy snow and minor ice glaze expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 6 to 12 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute. The gradient of snow accumulation will increase from west to east across the warning area with maximum snowfall around 1 foot.
