Severe storms with all hazards, including intense tornadoes, and heavy to excessive rain that could cause flash flooding can be expected across the Deep and Middle South. South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Thursday morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will produce blizzard or near blizzard conditions at times.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST Thursday evening

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Mississippi
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Pennsylvania 
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Friday morning

  • Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulations of one quarter to one half inch. Total sleet accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice and strong winds. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST Thursday evening

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

Summary:
A massive storm system will impact the Central and Southern U.S. over the next few days. Widespread heavy snow with blizzard conditions and a zone of wintry mix is possible from the north-central High Plains to the Upper Midwest. Meanwhile, in the warm sector of the storm, a severe weather event with all hazards is possible in the southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley to Florida. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-94, I-80, I-76, I-15, I-335, I-70, I-44, I-29


South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Thursday Morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 22 inches, highest amounts generally across southern portions of Fall River and Oglala Lakota counties. Heaviest snowfall will generally be today and tonight. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Significant icing. Ice accumulations of up to one quarter of an inch.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST Thursday evening

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Northwest winds gusting as high as 40 mph, causing areas of blowing snow. This will be a long duration event. Freezing drizzle may mix with snow at times tonight and Wednesday, before changing to all snow Wednesday night. Winds will increase Wednesday afternoon producing areas of blowing snow.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Kansas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday evening

  • Northwest winds at 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Louisiana 
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM CST Wednesday afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. There is a chance of excessive, heavy rain from late Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon. This may produce areas of flash flooding, especially in urban areas and roadways.

Pennsylvania 
Winter Strom Watch remains in effect until Friday morning

  • Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to three tenths of an inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph on the ridgetops to the west of I-99.
  • Impacts: Significant travel disruptions are possible. Power outages and tree damage may occur due to the ice. The hazardous travel conditions will likely impact the Thursday morning and evening commute.

Summary:
A strong winter storm that continues to produce heavy snow over the Intermountain West will transition into the Plains with multiple hazards. Heavy snow with areas of blizzard conditions and freezing rain will create significant travel impacts across the north and central Plains. Isolated severe storms with all hazards may develop in the south and central Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-15, I-84, I-80, I-70, I-40, I-17


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Thursday morning

  • Periods of moderate to heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening and Tuesday commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely be slick and hazardous, including this morning`s commute.

Nebraska
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch. Locally higher snow amounts are likely near the Pine Ridge. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, including whiteout conditions. Strong winds could result in tree and power line damage.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow and mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult due to very slick or snow-packed roads. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, possibly near whiteout conditions at times. Strong winds could bring down tree branches.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST Monday afternoon

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

A storm will track across portions of the Midwest and into the western Great Lakes through Friday as a combination of a wintry mixture and rain will result in hazardous traveling conditions. A strong Pacific system will be approaching with high winds, and heavier rain and snow late Friday into the weekend with impacts spreading across much of the West. Across Hawaii, strong winds and high surf. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-80, I-84, I-15


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Sunday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet, locally up to 5 feet possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Chain controls, travel delays and road closures are likely. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches, and near whiteout conditions at times.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. Strongest winds typically occur across exposed ridges and coastal headlands.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Snow expected above 3000 feet. Total snow accumulations of up to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph. This mostly effects portions of Hwy 299 and Hwy 36.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

  • South to southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected.

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 15 inches above 3000 feet, with locally up to 20 inches possible on the higher peaks. Between 2000 and 3000 feet, total snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches are likely. May also have spotty light freezing rain this morning.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Friday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in freezing fog.

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch in the mountains. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery or snow covered road conditions through this evening. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, and drifting snow may also cause lane blockages. Whiteout conditions will cause dangerous travel conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Blowing snow expected. Winds gusting between 35 and 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Blowing and drifting snow may significantly reduce visibility and cause partial lane blockages.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MST this afternoon

  • Southwest wind gusts up to 60 mph expected. Patchy blowing snow.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 from Livingston to Big Timber and roads along the Beartooth Foothills. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM PST this afternoon

  • Patchy light freezing drizzle and flurries. Localized glaze of ice.

U.S. Weather Update 12.1.22

Summary:
A Pacific storm moving across the Northwest with a trailing cold front sweeping through the West will continue heavy snow over the Cascades, northern Rockies, and the Sierra into Thursday night. High winds are forecast on the High Plains Thursday into Friday. Heavy lake effect snow will continue downwind of the Great Lakes into Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-15, US-2, I-90, I-80, I-5


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Friday morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches, with up to 18 inches above pass level. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially on US Highway 2 over Marias Pass. The hazardous conditions could impact peak travel times through Friday morning.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 AM MST tonight 

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM MST this morning

  • South to southwest winds gusting 50 to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult on Interstate 90 at Livingston and roads along the Beartooth Foothills. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. 

Colorado
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 75 mph expected. Isolated gusts to 100 mph will be possible.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

High Wind Watch remains in effect until 3 PM MST Friday afternoon

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts over 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust and perhaps a wall of dust is possible reducing visibilities and making travel hazardous if not dangerous at times.
