Summary:
A storm will develop over the southern Plains Monday then shift to the eastern Great Lakes before transferring off the coast of New England through Wednesday night. This will bring areas of rain, thunderstorms, snow, ice, and mixed precipitation. Strong offshore winds likely in southern California Tuesday and Wednesday may cause some damage and power outages along with critical fire weather.


Oklahoma
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. 
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Texas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

 Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CST this afternoon

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Summary:
A large scale flood threat is possible over the Appalachians and eastern Ohio Valley into west-central parts of Pennsylvania and New York state on Friday. A front will interact with weakening Nicole and its tropical moisture for a shield of intense heavy to excessive rainfall. Another potential hazard from decaying Nicole will be severe storms with brief tornadoes in the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic. 


Minnesota 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Occasional snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Georgia
Wind Advisory  remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Higher elevations may see gusts up to 50 mph.

  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

North Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may observe minor coastal flooding. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

Summary:
Nicole is expected to produce a variety of hazards across Florida into the Southeast through Thursday including, a dangerous storm surge, hurricane and tropical storm conditions, heavy rain with flooding and severe storms with tornadoes. Meanwhile, a powerful storm system will deliver a taste of winter to the Upper Midwest with snow, ice, blizzard conditions, high winds, rain and severe storms. Impacted Lanes: Highways 97, 139, 299, 395, 140, 395, I-75, I-95


Oregon 
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility as low as a quarter of a mile and slick surfaces due to freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility and slick road surfaces.

South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 12 AM CST tonight 

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • For the Ice Storm Warning, significant icing. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

  • Storm Surge: The potential for 3-5 feet above ground somewhere within surge prone areas
  • Impacts: Unfolding at the moment. Flooding from storm surge will cause some roadways to become impassable.
  • Flooding rain: Additional rain of around 1-3 inches is expected
  • Impacts: Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Summary:
Hurricane Warnings are in effect for a good portion of the east coast of Florida in anticipation of Nicole, which is expected to approach within the hurricane warning area Wednesday night with dangerous storm surge, hurricane conditions and heavy rain with flooding. Meanwhile, a powerful system will impact the Upper Midwest on Thursday with snow, blizzard conditions, winds, rain and severe storms.


North Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 12 AM CST Friday morning

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 AM CST Friday morning

  • Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Light freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations around a light glaze.

Kansas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CST this evening

  • South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust will be possible which would reduce visibilities and add to travel impacts especially in open areas.

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Nicole, which is expected to approach the east coast of Florida late Wednesday. Hazards including, dangerous storm surge, tropical storm and hurricane conditions and heavy rain and flooding are expected to impact parts of Florida and the Southeast. Meanwhile, a powerful storm will slam California on Tuesday with rain, flooding and mountain snow. Impacted Lanes: I-5, Hwy 93, I-80


California 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches above 5500 feet, 4 to 8 inches from 6500 to 7500 feet, to a few feet on the highest peaks. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph. There will also be areas of dense fog with sharply reduced visibility.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flash Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches in valleys, with 5 to 10 inches in the mountains. Highest snowfall amounts are expected in South Central Elko County, including along I80 from Wells through Pequop and along Hwy 93 south of I80 through Clover Valley.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • For the Wind Advisory, south winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

  • Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 14 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Florida
Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until Friday morning

  • Wind: 30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph
  • Impacts: Many large trees snapped or uprooted along with fences and roadway signs blown over. Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. Several bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. Large areas with power and communications outages.
  • Flooding Rain: 3-6 inches, with locally higher amounts
  • Impacts: Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter currents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches overflow. Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on  moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures.

Widespread rain and heavy high elevation snow will continue across much of the Pacific Northwest into the Cascades and Sierras through Wednesday. Elsewhere, record warmth persists over the east into Monday. A subtropical or tropical depression may form over the southwestern Atlantic during the next few days. Impacted Lanes: Highway 50


California 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 feet. Local amounts up to 5 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially above 4000 feet elevation. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility from blowing snow with whiteout conditions at times.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • South to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Nevada
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • South winds 20 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. Highest winds are expected across mountains and summits.

Summary:
Two major storm systems will impact different areas of the U.S. on Friday. A dynamic storm will lift through the Plains and severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and tornadoes are likely from parts of Texas and Oklahoma into Arkansas and Louisiana. In the Northwest, an anomalous plume of Pacific moisture will inundate the region with heavy rain, possible flooding, mountain snow and high winds. Impacted Lanes: Highway 20, I-84, US-20, US-26, US-93, US-95, SR-21, SR-51, SR-55, I-90, I-15, I-82, US-97


Washington
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 AM PDT this morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 20 inches near the Cascade crest. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible along Highway 20 from Mazama to Washington Pass. Gusty winds with heavy west snow could bring down tree branches.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Saturday night

  • Southwest to west winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Scattered to widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Idaho
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches. Winds gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Gusty  winds could bring down tree branches. Blowing snow will severely restrict visibility. Roads that are impacted are I-84, US-20, US-26, US-93, US-95, SR-21, SR-51, SR-55

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT Saturday evening

  • Snow expected. Total accumulation of 3 to 9 inches, with up to 14 inches on the higher ridgetops. Little to no accumulation is expected in the Challis area. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT Saturday evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. The strongest winds will be across portions of the Snake Plain and Magic Valley. Gusts over 50 mph are possible along I 84 near Yale and also along Idaho 33 between Rexburg and the Teton Valley.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially  for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Blowing dust and reduced visibility is possible, especially in recently plowed areas.

Illinois 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany the windy conditions, and may locally enhance winds.

U.S. Weather Update 11.2.22

Summary:
A dramatic contrast in weather patterns will occur the rest of the week through the weekend. In the West, well-below temperatures will be the main theme but heavy mountain snow and bouts of locally heavy rain will be common across the region. Meanwhile east of the Rockies, warm and mild conditions with above average temperatures are likely. In between expect severe storms and heavy rain late week. Impacted Lanes: I-15, I-80


Ohio
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one quarter mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Utah
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 12 AM MDT Thursday night

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 16 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult tonight, particularly across the higher passes along I-15.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday Morning

  • Snow expected. For the Wasatch Mountains I-80 North, total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts. For the Wasatch Mountains South of I-80, total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches with locally higher amounts.
  • Impacts: Winter driving conditions are expected, especially for seasonal routes and mountain passes.

Arizona 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening 

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph, with gusts from 40 to 45 mph. Localized gusts as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Summary:
An anomalous weather pattern will affect the Western U.S. this week and it features well-below normal temperatures with highs trending 5 to 15 degrees below average. Also expected will be locally heavy rain, showers, heavy mountain snow and gusty winds. Meanwhile, east of the Rockies, temperatures will be warm and mild with possible record highs in Florida and the Upper Midwest the next few days. Impacted Lanes: I-55, I-80, US-395


Illinois 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog along I-55 eastward.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. 

Utah
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Wednesday morning

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high profile vehicles due to crosswinds. Reduced visibility in blowing dust is possible.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Snow expected. For the Wasatch Mountains I-80 North, total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches with locally higher amounts. For the Wasatch Mountains South of I-80, total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches with locally higher amounts.
  • Impacts: Winter driving conditions are expected, especially for seasonal routes and mountain passes.

California
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Wednesday night

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches above 6000 feet. Snow level lowering to 5000 feet Tuesday night with 3 to 6 inches of snow. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with high country road closures.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT Wednesday night

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations 5 to 10 inches west of US-395. Elsewhere, up to 2 inches of snow. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph for wind prone locations with 80 to 100 mph gusts for the Sierra crest.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and reduced visibility from blowing dust will make driving difficult. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
