U.S. Weather Update 10.31.22

Summary:
A storm system moving over the Western U.S. this week will bring rain and high elevation snow. Heavy snow may impact travel through the Sierras Tuesday and Wednesday. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over the southern and central Plains Thursday and Friday east of the core of the storm system. Heavy rainfall in this area Friday and Saturday could lead to localized flooding impacts. Impacted Lanes: I-90


Alabama
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility at times.

Florida
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Minor tidal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Montana
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MDT Tuesday morning

  • Southwest wind gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 from Livingston to Big Timber and roads along the Beartooth Foothills. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

U.S. Weather Update 10.28.22

Summary:
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rain associated with a strong weather system will move across Texas. In the Pacific Northwest, a weather system will produce rain with higher elevation snow. In Alaska, a strong system in southern Alaska will produce high winds and areas of heavy rain and snow. 


Delaware 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

U.S. Weather Update 10.27.22

Summary:
A weather system moving into the South Plains will bring a threat of strong to severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain. Mountain snow will persist in the Rockies to the north of this system. Rain with mountain snow continues in the Pacific Northwest. A pair of strong weather systems to bring areas of high winds, heavy rain, and heavy snow to southern Alaska. Impacted Lanes: I-25, I-40, U.S. Highway 550


Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 AM MDT Friday Morning

  • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 75 mph, are occurring. Isolated wind gusts approaching 85 mph in wind prone areas along the immediate eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountain Front.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles or those pulling trailers.

Colorado 
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 14 inches with the heaviest accumulations above 10000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Embedded thunderstorms this afternoon could cause intense snowfall rates up to around 2 inches per hour which could cause rapidly deteriorating travel conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory  remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.

New Mexico
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways, including portions of Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 550 over the Continental Divide.

Winter Weather Advisory  remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, except up to 10 inches on higher peaks and northeast-facing ridges, including Raton Pass. West winds early Thursday morning becoming north to northeast gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Tire traction will be reduced. Extend the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. This includes along portions of I-25 at Raton Pass.

U.S. Weather Update 10.26.22

Summary:
A powerful storm will continue to affect Alaska through the middle of this week with strong winds, heavy precipitation and coastal hazards. Meanwhile, an upper level disturbance is forecast to track across the Intermountain West with showers, wind and some snow for the higher elevations. This system is expected to develop further for the Southern Plains for the second half of this week. Impacted Lanes: I-80, Highway 11, Highway 12, Highway 204, I-84


Utah
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches, locally higher across the upper Cottonwoods.
  • Impacts: Winter driving conditions will be possible on higher elevation routes including those seasonal routes that remain open late into fall. Those with plans in the higher terrain of northern Utah should be prepared for winter conditions.
  • Winter driving conditions will hit I-80.

Idaho 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PDT this morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.
  • Highway 11, Highway 12

Oregon
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT this evening

  •  Snow above 4000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 7 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute, especially over Highway 204 and Interstate 84 over the crest of the Blue Mountains.

U.S. Weather Update 10.25.22

Summary:
A very active storm system is expected to roll through the South and the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys on Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and a tornado or two are expected across the South and Mid South, while locally heavy to excessive rainfall is possible in the Mid Mississippi and Western Ohio Valleys. 


Montana 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches above 4500 feet and one half to 3 inches below.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.

Arkansas
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening

  • Northwest and southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Additionally, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.
 

North Carolina
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

U.S. Weather Update 10.24.22

Summary:
A powerful area of low pressure in the Upper Midwest will give way to an active Southern U.S. system early this week. On Monday, severe thunderstorms are possible across the eastern half of Texas. Also, heavy to excessive rainfall is likely from the southern Plains into the Mid to Lower Mississippi Valley. This whole storm will move into the South and Mid South on Tuesday. 


North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches, with some sleet mixed in. Locally higher snow amounts are possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of heavy falling snow and blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute. A few power outages are possible.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • Northwest winds around 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Montana
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult due to heavy wet snow accumulations, strong winds, and very poor visibility. The combination of heavy wet snow, along with the strong winds, may result in tree and power line damage causing sporadic power outages. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

New Mexico
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Summary:
A major weather pattern change is expected to start on Friday and continue throughout the weekend across the Northwest and West featuring inclement conditions and below normal temperatures. A strong cold front will dig through the Northwest on Friday and carve through the West over the weekend with heavy mountain snowfall for the northern and central Rockies and gusty winds throughout the region. Impacted Lanes: I-80 North


Utah
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from Noon Saturday until Midnight MDT Sunday night

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 18 inches
  • Impacts: Heavy snow will result in winter driving conditions, especially for seasonal routes and mountain passes.

High Wind Warning remains in effect from 6 AM Saturday until Midnight MDT Saturday night

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. Winds will be the strongest Saturday morning
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high profile vehicles.

U.S. Weather Update 10.19.22

Summary:
Strong high pressure continues to produce anomalous warmth and air quality issues in the Pacific Northwest. Early season storm is bringing heavy snow, high winds, and large waves in the Great Lakes and heavy rain in Maine. This system may bring the first freeze of the season to much of the South and East. Powerful Alaskan storm may produce high winds and heavy rain across southeast Alaska. 


Michigan 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Rain turning to snow early this morning. Additional snow accumulations of up to three inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Maine
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of small rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations especially over areas that received heavy rainfall late last week. Some Low-lying roadways may flood.

U.S. Weather Update 10.18.22

Summary:
An early season Great Lakes storm is producing heavy snow, high winds, and large waves. As the front moves east, much below normal temperatures will spread to the East Coast. Heavy rain in the Northeast may produce flooding. Breezy conditions along the north Gulf Coast will produce critical fire weather threats. Dry and unusual warmth and air quality issues persist in the Pacific Northwest. 


Michigan 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Heavy, wet snow will continue today, mainly inland from Lake Superior, resulting in poor travel conditions. Additional snow accumulations 3 to 6 inches are expected in the higher terrain a few miles inland from Lake Superior. Near the shoreline, little or no snow accumulation will occur due to rain only or rain mixing with the snow at times. North winds will gust to 35 to 45 mph, but to as high as around 50 mph along Lake Superior from Big Bay to Shot Point.
  • Baraga and Marquette Counties on the Upper Michigan Peninsula 
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult in some high terrain areas. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes today. Gusty winds and wet snow could bring down tree branches, resulting in potentially widespread power outages.

Maine
Flood Advisory remains in effect until Wednesday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Low-lying roadways flooding is possible.

U.S. Weather Update 10.17.22

Summary:
A taste of late autumn to early winter across the eastern half of the country where some accumulating snow is possible, especially across the upper Great Lakes. Meanwhile, record high temperatures, dry weather, wildfire concerns and air quality issues across the Pacific Northwest continues. For Alaska, a series of storms will bring occasional wind, rain and snow with coastal impacts. 


Michigan
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11AM EDT Tuesday

  • Heavy, wet snow continues through Tuesday morning, resulting in poor travel conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches are expected in the higher terrain a few miles inland from Lake Superior with locally higher totals approaching 16 inches possible across the Michigamme Highlands. Near the shoreline, little or no snow accumulation will occur due to rain only mixing with the snow at times. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph through this evening then as high as 50 mph into early Tuesday morning.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible in some high terrain areas. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes today and the Tuesday morning commute. Gusty winds and wet snow could bring down tree branches, resulting in potentially widespread power outages.
