Summary:
A Pacific storm will move through the Northwest U.S. today into Wednesday with areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds. Further south, strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are expected to bring elevated to critical fire weather back to much of southern California this afternoon into Wednesday. Red Flag Warnings have been issued. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-25, I-40, I-90, I-5, I-82, I-84, I-15, I-29, I-10, I-69, I-45, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-95, I-77, I-85, I-81


Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Additional snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 to 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • West winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles on Interstate 40

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM PST this afternoon

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Fog this morning can be patchy.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM PST Wednesday evening

  • Northeast winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM PST this morning

  • Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and creeks. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. Water over roadways is expected.

Showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain is possible across the Ohio Valley southwest into the Southern Plains. Modest atmospheric river activity will bring unsettled weather to the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies going through early this week, including heavy rains for the coastal ranges and accumulating snow for the higher elevations.   • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over the roadways.

Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 2 feet for the Tetons and up to a foot for the Gros Ventres.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to a foot. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, including Salt River Pass.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

California
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches along highway passes. Higher amounts possible on high peaks.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Chains may be required when traveling through mountain passes.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches along highway passes. Higher amounts possible on high peaks.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low lying areas around Humboldt Bay including parks and roads with only isolated closures expected.

Summary:
Moderate to heavy lake-effect snow and gusty winds will continue Friday downwind of the Lake Ontario. The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will bring hazardous driving conditions. A couple of Pacific Storms may bring the potential for significant low elevation rain and higher elevation snow from central California to the Pacific Northwest through the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-15, I-80, I-29, I-94, I-35, I-74, I-70, I-81


Iowa
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST Saturday afternoon

  • Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulations between two tenths and three tenths of an inch, and snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch.
  • Impacts: Some power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice and wind. Travel could be nearly impossible as roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous tonight into Saturday morning.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST Saturday afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch, and snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous. Plan on slick, and even treacherous road conditions tonight into Saturday morning. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute, especially in southwest Iowa. Branches and power lines may become ice coated. Winds from the East-Southeast at 10-20 mph could cause tree limbs to break or power outages to occur.

California
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • High astronomical tides and large surf will cause moderate flooding in low lying areas along the Redwood Coast. Up to one foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low lying areas around Humboldt Bay including parks and roads with only isolated closures expected.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • High astronomical tides will cause minor flooding in low lying areas around Crescent City. Up to one quarter foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low lying areas are possible, including along Pebble Beach Rd and along Highway 101 by South Beach south of Crescent City.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PST this evening

  • Wet snow expected for locations above 3500 feet. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM PST this evening

  • Heavy snow above 3000 feet. Total accumulation of 10 to 23 inches around Scott Mountain Pass. Total accumulation of up to 1 foot below 3000 feet. Wind gusting as high 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Tire chains may be necessary if travelling through mountain passes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM PST Saturday afternoon

  • Southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM PST Saturday afternoon

  • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 3 PM PST Saturday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: There will be an increased risk of rock and land slides along roadways. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Water over roadways is expected.

New York
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 9 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 6 to 13 inches in the most persistent lake snows.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult with deep snow cover on roads and very poor visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning commute.

Montana

Colder air is rushing southward from the Plains into the Southeast. Heavy lake effect snow will occur with up to a few feet of snow and dangerous traveling conditions. Outside of the lake effect, strong winds will make it feel colder and could impact travel for high profile vehicles. The West Coast states will experience a couple of strong Pacific systems.   • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

  • Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST Friday evening

  • Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations 2 to 3 feet in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will produce considerable blowing and drifting snow and near whiteout conditions at times.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult with deep snow cover on roads and very poor visibility. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, with near whiteout conditions at times. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes today.

  • Snow. Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches above 7000 feet with 4 to 8 inches on the Sierra crest. Ridge winds gusting as high 80 mph.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways is expected. 

Maine
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation. Little additional snow accumulation for a storm total of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy road conditions. This is especially true on untreated side roads. Even light snowfall amounts can accumulate on roads and cause dangerous driving conditions due to snow covered roads. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Maine

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST Tuesday afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.
  • Impacts: Snow will change over to a period of freezing rain and freezing drizzle. It is recommended not to plow your driveway and walkways until the storm has ended. New York
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST Saturday afternoon

  • Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

Snow squalls along this front will be accompanied by intense bursts of heavy snowfall and gusty winds, producing dangerous travel conditions due to whiteouts and icy roads. Wind gusts up to 80 mph will spread into the Central Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. Impacted Lanes:  I-80, I-40, I-5, I-84, I-94, I-90, I-96, I-75, I-20, I-26, I-95, I-77, I-81, I-79, I-70, I-76, I-86, I-88, I-91, I-89, I-93


Pennsylvania
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches north of I-90 increasing to 12 to 20 inches with locally higher amounts south of I-90. Wind gusts up to 60 mph north of I-90 and up to 50 mph south of I-90, mainly this morning.
  • Impacts: Visibilities will drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Significant drifting of snow is likely, including across some roadways. The strong winds may cause downed trees and power outages. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel is expected to be impossible today and should be postponed. The hazardous conditions will impact the commutes this morning and evening.
